Jett from Specialized - a bike that grows with your child

Many parents face a dilemma – they want to buy a good quality children's bicycle for their child, but the child grows quickly and after a year, the bike no longer fits. It's not advisable to compromise on quality, and buying a bike "to grow into" is not recommended and even dangerous. What to do?

The company Specialized is well aware of the dilemmas consumers face and strives to find solutions for every issue. In this case, Specialized has created Jett – a bike with adjustable parameters that grow with the child – you could say the bike grows with the child.

What happens if a child rides a bike that is too small or too big?

If a child cannot fully reach the pedals, or rides with significantly bent legs, not fully extending them, the physical load is distributed unevenly, causing damage to tendons and joints. If the handlebars are too far and the child has to lean forward, an incorrect spinal posture forms, the head is too low, and to see the objects ahead, the child has to tilt their head back. If the handlebars are too close, the arms do not fully extend, the grips are held incorrectly, and an incorrect wrist position is fixed. Due to improper posture and unevenly distributed load on the body, both adults and children can develop chronic injuries. Learn more about chronic cyclist injuries and how to avoid them here. If your child not only rides a bike for leisure but also practices cycling professionally, it would be beneficial to conduct a Retül test to ensure the bike perfectly fits your child's body and prevent chronic injuries. Jett from Specialized – a bike that adapts to a child's growth

From ages 5 to 12, a child's arms and legs grow the fastest. Every bike is somewhat adjustable, but Specialized has created a bike that grows with the child and grows precisely as the child does – increasing the distance to the handlebars, the distance to the bike pedals, and the distance between the pedals.

With Jett, the saddle height adjustment range is much larger than other bikes – even if a child grows nearly 10 centimeters in a year, they can still safely ride the bike the next summer, and the summer after that. Jett bike handlebars are adjustable to give growing child's arms more room.

Another growing bike feature – two pedal mounting positions, one narrower and one wider. When the pedals are too close or too far apart, riding the bike is really uncomfortable. The proper distance between the pedals ensures proper weight distribution, proportional muscle load, and maximum stability.

Jett 16, Jett 20, and Jett 24 – which bike is best for your child?

Jett bikes come in 4 versions – Jett 16" single speed, Jett 20" single speed, Jett 20" 7-speed, and Jett 24" 8-speed bikes.

The number next to the name indicates the wheel size. A bike with 16-inch wheels is recommended for children whose height is from 99 to 117 cm, 20 inches – for children whose height is from 114 to 132 cm, and 24 inches – for those whose height is from 130 to 150 cm. However, remember that this is just a guideline, and the best decision is to consult a specialist.

Accordingly, as the child grows and their cognitive abilities develop, there is the possibility to shift gears and the number of gears increases. All bikes with wheels larger than 16" have two different pedal mounting positions.

Jett Fit Tool – an app to help set the right parameters

How to choose and set the optimal parameters that match the body structure of a child who has grown over the year? Do you rely on your own intuition or ask the child? But the child is not always able to properly articulate their feelings and give a valid answer. What to do – go to the store and consult a specialist every time you need to adjust the bike?

Specialized has created an app for this purpose, Jett Fit Tool. Here, by entering data about the child's height and body proportions, you will get instructions on the optimal bike settings. The benefits are multifaceted – more comfort, more confidence, and a lower risk of injuries.

A bike that grows with the child – not just functional benefits

Many parents might say – it's okay, in our family or kin there are many children, older children pass on the bike to younger ones, and when they "outgrow" the bike, they pass it on to another smaller child.

A growing bike is beneficial not only in terms of functionality but also in terms of psychological, maturity, and responsibility aspects. The bike for a child is not a transitional prize, passed on from an older child for one summer, and after it ends, given to someone else. The bike is the child's personal property for at least three years, which they take care of and are responsible for. If you decide to give your child a new bike but find it difficult to choose, this blog article will provide some helpful tips.

What else should you know about Jett?

Jett is a maximally versatile bike, suitable for riding on bike paths or paved roads as well as gravel roads. Jett tires roll well on the road surface, but also provide good traction on gravel or dirt. This bike has a rigid, non-suspension fork – is that good? Yes, because a suspension fork is primarily designed for mountain bikes, and in city riding, it only adds extra weight to the bike. The Jett bike is really light – the weight of different models varies from 7 to 10 kg.

The Jett bike's cables run inside the frame, making the bike look "cleaner" and the cables last longer. The bike's handlebars are ergonomic, and the saddle has a special Body Geometry channel in the middle, which ensures better blood circulation and provides relief while sitting.
